Religious symbols such as ॐ, ☬, ✝, ☪, ✡ and ☸ are simple shapes that carry deep meaning for millions of people. On this page you can copy each religious symbol, learn what it stands for in its own tradition, and find out how to type it on a phone, Windows PC or Mac.

Tap any symbol in the grid to copy it, or use the Download PNG button for a transparent image you can add to a card or slide. Each faith has its own detailed page, linked in the tables below. The symbols are listed in groups only to make them easy to find, not in any order of importance.

Hindu Symbol List: Symbol of Hinduism with Meanings

When people search for a hindu symbol, they usually mean ॐ (Om). It is the sacred sound chanted at the start of prayers and mantras, and many see it as the main symbol of Hinduism. But Hindu homes and temples use several other signs too.

Sikh, Jain and Buddhist Symbols

These three traditions began in India, and their symbols appear all around us, from gurdwara flags to the Ashoka Chakra.

Judaism🕎Menorah with nine branches, lit during HanukkahOn this page

The best-known judaism symbol today is ✡, the Star of David. It appears on synagogues and on the flag of Israel. The menorah is older and is also a strong jewish symbol: the nine-branched form 🕎 is the lamp lit over the eight nights of Hanukkah. For a church symbol, use ⛪ (church emoji) or one of the crosses above.

Zoroastrianism Symbol, Taoism and the Atheist Symbol

Zoroastrianism (Parsi faith): the main zoroastrianism symbol is the Faravahar, a winged figure of a man rising from a ring. Many Parsis in India link it with the faith's three principles: good thoughts, good words and good deeds (Humata, Hukhta, Hvarshta). Fire is also central, and Parsi places of worship are called fire temples. There is no Unicode character for the Faravahar, so people use an image, or 🔥 as a simple sign for the sacred fire.

Taoism: ☯ yin yang shows two opposite forces that complete each other. See the yin yang symbol page for its meaning.

Atheism: atheism is not a religion, but some groups use an atheist symbol shaped like an atom model with a letter A in it. It has no standard Unicode character, so there is no official atheist symbol emoji. Some people use ⚛ (the atom symbol) in its place.

All Religion Symbol in One Line

School projects, interfaith events and Independence Day posters often show an all religion symbol in one line, to express respect for every faith. You can copy this ready-made line:

ॐ ☬ ✝ ☪ ✡ ☸ ☯

A shorter "3 religion" line some people use is ॐ ✝ ☪. Keep the same spacing between symbols so none looks bigger or more important. If you want a softer message, add ☮ from the peace symbol page or 🙏 at the end.

How to Type Religious Symbols on Phone, Windows and Mac

None of these religious symbols has a standard Alt code on Windows. Use one of these methods instead:

  • Copy and paste: tap the symbol in the grid above, then paste it anywhere.
  • Microsoft Word: type the code, then press Alt+X. For example 0950 gives ॐ, 262C gives ☬, 271D gives ✝, 262A gives ☪, 2721 gives ✡ and 2638 gives ☸.
  • Windows emoji panel: press Windows+. and search "om", "cross", "star of David" or "wheel of dharma".
  • Mac: press Control+Command+Space to open Character Viewer and search by name.
  • Android and iPhone: open the emoji keyboard and search "om", "pray", "menorah" or "trident".

For web pages, the info table above gives the HTML code of each symbol, such as ॐ for ॐ.

Using Religious Symbols with Respect

  • Each religious symbol belongs to a living community. Use it in the meaning that community gives it.
  • Avoid placing sacred symbols in jokes, on footwear-related designs or next to rude words.
  • Some symbols look alike but are different: ੴ (Ik Onkar) is not the same as ॐ (Om), and 卐 (swastik) needs a line of context when shared abroad.
  • If a symbol shows as an empty box, the device font is missing it. Try a newer phone or the PNG image instead.

Frequently asked questions

What is the symbol of Hinduism?

The best-known symbol of Hinduism is ॐ (Om), the sacred sound chanted at the start of prayers. The swastik 卐, the trishul 🔱 and the lotus 🪷 are also common Hindu symbols seen in homes and temples.

What is the symbol of Judaism?

The Star of David ✡ is the most widely recognised symbol of Judaism. The menorah is another important symbol; the nine-branched menorah 🕎 is lit during the festival of Hanukkah.

What is the Parsi religion symbol?

Parsis follow Zoroastrianism, and its best-known symbol is the Faravahar, a winged figure. Fire is also deeply respected in the faith. The Faravahar has no Unicode character, so it can only be shared as an image.

Is there an atheist symbol emoji?

No. The atom-style atheist symbol has no standard Unicode character or emoji. Some people use the atom symbol ⚛ instead, but it is not an official sign.

Why do some religious symbols show as a box?

A box means the font on that device does not include the character. Newer emoji such as 🪯 (Khanda) or 🪷 (lotus) may not show on older phones. Updating the phone, or sharing the PNG image from this page, solves it.

Which symbols can I use for all religions together?

A common line is ॐ ☬ ✝ ☪ ✡ ☸ ☯, with equal spaces between them. It is often used on interfaith posters and school charts to show respect for many faiths.
