Emoji copy and paste is the quickest way to add ๐ โค๏ธ ๐ to a chat, bio, email or document when your keyboard does not show the one you want. Tap any emoji in the grid below and it is copied at once. Long-press where you want it and choose Paste, or press Ctrl+V on a computer.
This page is the starting point for all emojis on our site. Below you will find the emojis people in India use most, a full list of emoji categories (hearts, faces, festivals, animals and more), how to type emojis on Android, iPhone, Windows and Mac, and why some emojis turn into an empty box on older phones. If you want to know what a particular emoji means, go to our emoji meanings guide.
What Is an Emoji?
An emoji is a small picture that works like a letter. Each one has its own Unicode number, just like A or โน. For example, ๐ is U+1F602 and ๐ is U+1F64F. When you send an emoji, you are not sending an image file. You send that number, and the phone on the other side draws the picture using its own emoji font.
That is why the same emoji looks slightly different from phone to phone. Apple, Google, Samsung, Microsoft and WhatsApp each draw their own version. The meaning stays the same, but the colours, eyes and shape change a little. A ๐ฅบ on an iPhone and a ๐ฅบ on a Samsung phone are the same character with two different designs. This is what people mean by emoji style.
Most emojis are single characters, but some are built from several. The India flag ๐ฎ๐ณ is two hidden letter codes (I and N) that phones join into a flag. Skin tones and family emojis are also made by joining characters together.
How to Copy and Paste Emojis on Phone and PC
On Android or iPhone
- Tap the emoji in the grid above. It is copied straight away.
- Open WhatsApp, Instagram or any app and long-press inside the text box.
- Tap Paste. The emoji appears in your phone's own style.
On a Windows or Mac computer
- Click the emoji in the grid to copy it.
- Click where you want it.
- Press Ctrl+V on Windows or Command+V on Mac.
For a picture rather than a character, use the Download PNG button above the grid. It saves the main emoji as a transparent PNG for slides, school projects or a poster. To paste many emojis at once, tap a few in turn: each tap replaces what you copied before, so paste after every tap, or use the ready sets on our emoji combos page.
How to Type Emojis Without Copying
Emojis have no Alt codes, so the number pad trick that works for โฅ or ยฐ does not work here. Use these methods instead.
| Device or app | How to open emojis |
|---|---|
| Windows 10 and 11 | Press Windows+. (period) or Windows+;, then type a word like "heart" to search |
| Mac | Press Control+Command+Space, or the globe/Fn key on newer Macs |
| Microsoft Word | Type the code and press Alt+X: 1F602 gives ๐, 1F64F gives ๐ |
| Android | Tap the smiley key on your keyboard; on some layouts, long-press the Enter or comma key |
| iPhone | Tap the smiley or globe key at the bottom left of the keyboard |
| Web page (HTML) | Write the code, for example 😂 for ๐ (the table above lists each one) |
Both phone keyboards have a search box in the emoji panel, so typing "dance" or "cake" is faster than scrolling. For every shortcut in one place, see emoji keyboard shortcuts. Apple users can read our iPhone emoji guide.
Most Used Emojis in India and What They Mean
These are the emojis you will see again and again in Indian family groups, college chats and Instagram comments. Meanings are informal, so the same emoji can feel different to different people.
| Emoji | Official name | Often used for |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ | Face with tears of joy | Laughing hard at a joke or meme |
| โค๏ธ | Red heart | Love, thanks, support |
| ๐ | Folded hands | Namaste, please, thank you, prayer |
| ๐ญ | Loudly crying face | Very sad, or so funny it hurts |
| ๐ฅฐ | Smiling face with hearts | Feeling loved, warm thanks |
| ๐ | Smiling face with heart-eyes | Love at first sight, "so beautiful" |
| ๐ฅ | Fire | Something is great, hot or trending |
| ๐ | Skull | "I'm dead", laughing too much |
| โจ | Sparkles | Something special, new or pretty |
| ๐ฅบ | Pleading face | Cute request, "please na" |
| ๐ | Thumbs up | OK, done, agreed |
| ๐ซก | Saluting face | Yes sir, respect, task accepted |
| ๐งฟ | Nazar amulet | Protection from buri nazar (evil eye) |
| ๐ช | Diya lamp | Diwali, puja, light and good wishes |
| ๐ฎ๐ณ | India flag | Independence Day, Republic Day, cricket |
Two of these are often misread. Some people see ๐ as a high five, but in India it almost always means namaste or thank you. And ๐ rarely means death in chats: it usually means "I'm dying of laughter".

Emoji vs Symbol: โฅ or โค๏ธ?
Emoji symbols and text symbols can look alike, but they behave differently. A text symbol like โฅ or โ is a plain character. It takes the colour and font of your text, so it looks the same in a Word file, an Excel cell or a game name. An emoji like โค๏ธ or โญ is drawn in full colour by the phone.
Some characters can be both. โค on its own may show as a black text heart, while โค๏ธ is the same character plus an invisible marker (U+FE0F, called a variation selector) that asks the app to show the colour emoji. That is why one copy shows red and another shows black. If you need plain, single-colour characters, our symbol pages are the better choice: heart symbols, smiley symbols, star symbols and aesthetic symbols.
Why Some Emojis Show as a Box or Question Mark
New emojis are added in yearly Emoji releases. A phone can only draw the emojis its software knows. If your friend sends ๐ซ (added in Emoji 14.0) and your phone has not been updated for years, you may see an empty box, a ? or two separate pictures instead of one.
- Update your phone's system software.
- Update your keyboard app (Gboard, Samsung Keyboard, SwiftKey).
- Update WhatsApp: it uses its own emoji set inside chats.
- If nothing helps, the phone may be too old for that emoji. Use an older one with a similar meaning.
Flags like ๐ฎ๐ณ also show as two letters (I N) on Windows, because Windows does not draw country flags as pictures. See new emojis for the latest additions.

Frequently asked questions
How to send emoji in a chat?
Tap the smiley key on your phone keyboard and pick one, or copy an emoji from the grid on this page and paste it. On a Windows PC press Windows key + . and on a Mac press Control + Command + Space.
What is the bow emoji?
The bow emoji is ๐, officially called Ribbon. It is very popular in soft, pink and coquette style bios. You can copy it from our aesthetic emoji page along with matching sets.
What does the eyes emoji ๐ mean?
๐ is often used to show "I'm watching", curiosity or interest in gossip. People also reply with it when something exciting is about to happen. It is friendly in most chats.
Is there a white block emoji?
Yes. โฌ is the white large square and โป๏ธ is the white medium square. If you see a blank white box in place of an emoji, that is different: it means your phone cannot draw that emoji.
Can I change my emoji style or emoji font?
The emoji style comes from your phone's system and keyboard, so copying from a website does not change it. Some phone brands offer other emoji styles in their theme store. Avoid unknown apps that promise new emoji fonts, as they can be unsafe. For a stylish emoji look in a bio, mix a few emojis with text symbols instead.
Are emojis the same as emoji stickers?
No. Emojis are text characters that you can copy and paste. Stickers, including emoji stickers and Emoji Kitchen mixes, are images, so they are sent as pictures and cannot be pasted as text. An emoji DP is also just an image of an emoji used as a profile photo.
