The full stop symbol (.) is the small dot placed at the end of a sentence that makes a statement: The school bus is late. In American English it is called a period, and in computing it is often just called a dot or point. It has its own key next to the / key on every keyboard.

Where the Full Stop (Period Symbol) Is Used

When the dot works as a decimal, people read it as "point": 4.5 is "four point five". That is why some people search for a point symbol when they mean this same key. Note that British style often drops the dot in titles like Dr and Mr; both styles are accepted in India, but stay consistent within one document.
Full Stop Symbol in Hindi: Purna Viram । and ॥
Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit and some other Indian languages written in Devanagari do not use the dot to end a sentence. They use a straight vertical line called purna viram (also called danda): मैं स्कूल जाता हूँ।
- । (U+0964) ends a normal sentence. Note that Hindi uses the ? and ! marks just like English.
- ॥ (U+0965), the double danda, marks the end of a verse in shlokas, dohas and prayers, often with the verse number: ॥ 1 ॥
On a phone, most Hindi keyboard layouts show । on the main or symbols layer. On a computer, copy it from the grid, or in Word type 0964 and press Alt+X. Do not type a pipe | or the digit 1 in its place; they look similar but are different characters and can confuse search and text-to-speech.
Ellipsis Symbol (…): The "... Symbol" Meaning
Many people search for the ... symbol when they mean the ellipsis: three dots that show missing words or a sentence that trails off.
- Missing words in a quote: "We the people of India … give to ourselves this Constitution."
- A pause or unfinished thought: I was going to call you, but …
- In chats, … can mean "I am thinking" or a doubtful tone.
You can type three full stops, or the single character …, which keeps the dots evenly spaced. On Windows press Alt+0133; on Mac press Option+;. Word also changes three typed dots into … automatically. If the ellipsis ends a sentence, some styles add a fourth dot as the full stop.

How to Type the Full Stop on Any Device
- Windows and Mac: press the . key. The number pad also has a . (or Del) key for decimals.
- Alt code: Alt+46.
- Android: the full stop is on the main keyboard on most Android keyboards. Double-tapping the space bar often adds a full stop and a space; you can turn this on or off in keyboard settings.
- iPhone: double-tap the space bar for ". " (Settings > General > Keyboard > "." Shortcut), or tap 123.
