The classic phone symbol is โ, an old desk telephone, and it is the most common way to mark a phone number on resumes, letterheads and visiting cards. For a modern feel, people also use the call symbol ๐ or the mobile symbol ๐ฑ. Tap any symbol in the grid to copy it, or use Download PNG for a transparent phone symbol png, call symbol png or mobile symbol png.
Below you will find which telephone symbol fits which use, three ways to add a phone symbol in Word, a Wingdings trick, and how to keep your number readable for both people and resume software.
Telephone, Call and Mobile Symbols Compared
| Symbol | Name | Type | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|

| โ | White telephone | Text, outline | Light, minimal card designs |
| โ | Telephone location sign | Text | "Phone here" or helpline labels |
| ๐ | Telephone receiver | Emoji | Call symbol in bios, WhatsApp, digital CVs |
| ๐ฑ | Mobile phone | Emoji | Mobile number lines |

Phone Symbol for Resume, Cards and Letterheads
Examples you can copy and edit:
- โ +91 98250 12345 (resume header)
- ๐ฑ +91 90990 54321 | โ riya.patel@example.com
- โ 079 2654 1234 (office landline on a letterhead)
- โ Helpline: 1800 xxx xxxx
Good practice for a mobile symbol for resume use:
- Write the number with the country code +91 if you apply outside India or online.
- Group digits in a readable way (5 + 5).
- Keep a label in the text, such as "โ Phone: +91 ...". Resume screening software may skip the symbol but will still read "Phone".
- Use one style for all contact icons. Match it with the email symbol and location symbol.
For complete header layouts, see our resume and contact symbols hub.

That covers the telephone symbol in Word, the call symbol in Word and the mobile symbol in Word (๐ฑ, the mobile phone symbol) for any version.
Phone Symbol in Excel, Google Docs and on Your Mobile
- Excel: Insert > Symbol (Segoe UI Symbol, code 260E). Alt+X does not work in Excel.
- Google Docs: Insert > Special characters, search "telephone".
- Windows: Windows+. opens the emoji panel; search "phone".
- Mac: Control+Command+Space, search "telephone".
- Android and iPhone: open the emoji keyboard and search "phone" or "call".
- HTML: ☎ for โ. On websites, wrap the number in a tel: link so people can tap to call.
None of these phone characters has an Alt code. If you want a plain mobile symbol text that works everywhere, just write "Mob:" or "M:" before the number.
Cell Symbol: Phone or Battery?
"Cell symbol" can mean two things. In phone talk, a cell phone symbol is simply ๐ฑ. In science, the symbol of a cell in a circuit diagram is two parallel lines, one long and one short. The longer line represents the positive terminal and the shorter line the negative terminal. Two or more cells joined together make a battery. Dry cell and solar cell symbols are drawn in circuit diagrams too; see the physics symbols page for those.
Phone Status Icons People Ask About
Some searches are about icons on the phone's own status bar, not text symbols. ๐ณ shows vibration mode, and ๐ต means phones are not allowed. A small headphone icon, data arrows or a key icon in the status bar come from your phone's settings and differ by brand, so check your phone's settings or manual. The symbols on this page are for typing and copying into messages and documents.
