iPhone emoji copy and paste works exactly like any other emoji: tap โค๏ธ or ๐Ÿฅน in the grid below and paste it anywhere. What surprises many people is what happens next. On an iPhone you will see Apple's design, but on an Android phone the same emoji shows in Android's design.

This guide explains why, shows how to use the iPhone emoji keyboard properly, and gives an honest answer to the most common question we get: "How do I get iOS emoji on Android?" It also covers the Apple logo emoji and the AirPods emoji, two things people search for that are not normal emojis at all. For all emoji categories, visit the emoji hub.

iPhone Emoji Copy and Paste: What Actually Gets Copied

When you copy ๐Ÿ˜‚, you copy a Unicode character (U+1F602), not a picture. The phone that displays it chooses the drawing. So there is no special "Apple version" of ๐Ÿ˜‚ that you can copy from a website and keep on Android.

The last row is the only way to share the exact Apple look: as an image. That is also how iPhone sticker emoji packs work. They are pictures, not text, so you cannot paste them into a bio or a username.

Why iPhone Emojis Look Different From Android

Unicode only says what each emoji should show, for example "a face crying loudly". Each company then draws its own art. Apple's emojis have a glossy, rounded style. Google's are flatter and bolder. Samsung, Microsoft and WhatsApp have their own sets too. On Android, WhatsApp shows its own emoji designs inside chats, which is why a WhatsApp emoji may not match your keyboard.

The differences are usually small, but sometimes they change the feeling. A face that looks gently sad on one phone can look much sadder on another. If a message really matters, a few words help more than the emoji alone.

How to Use the iPhone Emoji Keyboard

The emoji keyboard is turned on by default on most iPhones. If you do not see the smiley or globe key, add it:

  1. Open Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.
  2. Tap Add New Keyboard.
  3. Choose Emoji from the list.
  4. Open any chat and tap the smiley or globe key at the bottom left of the keyboard.

On recent iOS versions there is a search box at the top of the emoji keyboard. Type "heart", "cry" or "cake" to find an emoji quickly. Your most used emojis appear first under Frequently Used.

Save a shortcut: go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Text Replacement, tap +, paste an emoji combo as the phrase and set a short code like "bday". Typing bday will then offer ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿฅณ. For ready sets, see emoji combos.

On a Mac, press Control+Command+Space or the globe/Fn key to open the emoji picker. Emojis have no Option key shortcut.

iOS Emoji for Android: What Works and What to Avoid

Searches like "ios emoji download for android" or "iphone emoji font" are very common. Here is the honest picture:

  • Theme stores: some Android phone brands let you change the system font or emoji style through their own theme store. Check your phone's Themes app first. This is the safest option where available.
  • Keyboard apps: a keyboard app may show iPhone-style emojis in its picker, but it still sends normal Unicode characters. The person you chat with, and often your own chat screen, will show the usual Android design.
  • Root and font modules: replacing the system emoji font usually needs rooting the phone. This can break updates, banking apps and the warranty. We do not recommend it.
  • Unknown APK files: "iOS emoji pack" downloads from random sites can contain adware or worse. Avoid them.

Remember that changing your own phone's emoji style only changes what you see. Your friends still see emojis in their own phone's style.

Apple Logo Emoji and AirPods Emoji

Apple logo emoji: there is no official Apple logo emoji. The logo you sometimes see in text is a private-use character (U+F8FF) that only Apple's own fonts draw as the logo. On Android, Windows and most websites it shows as an empty box or a different symbol, so it is a poor choice for bios. A neutral alternative is ๐ŸŽ (red apple) or ๐Ÿ“ฑ (mobile phone).

AirPods emoji: there is no standard emoji for AirPods or any branded earbuds. The closest emoji is ๐ŸŽง (headphone). People sometimes pair it with ๐ŸŽถ for a music mood.

New iOS Emojis and How Many Emojis Are on iPhone

New emojis first get approved by Unicode in an Emoji release. Apple then adds them in an iOS update, usually some months later. If a friend sends a new emoji and you see a box, update iOS from Settings > General > Software Update.

There is no fixed answer to "how many emojis on iOS". The number grows with each release and depends on whether you count skin tones, flags and family combinations separately. Counted that way, there are several thousand. For what was added most recently, see new emojis.

Frequently asked questions

Can I copy iPhone emojis to use on Android?

You can copy and paste any emoji, but it will show in Android's own design on an Android phone. Only an image or screenshot keeps the exact iPhone look.

Is there a safe way to get iOS emoji on Android?

Check whether your phone brand's theme store offers a different emoji style where available. Avoid rooting and unknown APK downloads, as they can harm your phone and your data.

Why does my iPhone emoji show as a box on my friend's phone?

Either the emoji is newer than your friend's software, or you sent a private-use character like the Apple logo that only Apple devices can draw. Updating the phone fixes the first case only.

How do I search emojis on iPhone?

Open the emoji keyboard and type in the search box at the top, available on recent iOS versions. Words like "heart", "party" or "sleep" work well.

Do Instagram emojis on iPhone look different?

Instagram uses your phone's system emojis, so on an iPhone you see Apple's design and on Android you see Android's. Ideas for bios and captions are on our Instagram emoji page.
