Which Location Symbol to Use

📍 is a location symbol emoji, so it shows in colour on phones and in most new apps. ⌖ and ◉ are true location symbol text characters: they take the colour and font of your text, which is useful for formal documents.

Location Symbol for Resume and Visiting Card

A neat contact line on a resume uses one small symbol before each item:

• 📍 Pune, Maharashtra | 📞 +91 98xxx xxxxx | ✉ name@example.com
• ⌖ Andheri East, Mumbai 400069 (plain style for print)
• 🏠 Flat 12, Shanti Apartments, Indore (full address on a card)

Tips:

• On a resume, the city is enough; a full home address is not needed.
• Use the same style for all icons: either all emoji or all plain text.
• Keep the word too if the file will be read by software, for example "📍 Location: Pune". Some applicant tracking systems drop symbols.

How to Insert Location Symbol in Word

Method 1: Code then Alt+X (fastest)

1. Click where you want the symbol.
2. Type 1F4CD for 📍, or 2316 for ⌖.
3. Press Alt+X. Word turns the code into the symbol.

This is the closest thing to a location symbol in Word shortcut key; there is no Alt numpad code for these characters.

Method 2: Insert > Symbol

1. Go to Insert > Symbol > More Symbols.
2. Choose the font Segoe UI Symbol.
3. Type 2316 in the Character code box (from: Unicode hex) and click Insert.

This gives you a location symbol text in Word that changes colour with your font.

Method 3: Insert > Icons (Microsoft 365)

1. Go to Insert > Icons.
2. Search "location" or "map pin".
3. Pick an icon and click Insert. Resize it and change its colour with Graphics Format > Graphics Fill.

Icons look sharp in print, but they are pictures, not text, so set Wrap Text to "In Line with Text" to keep them on the same line as your address. Symbol fonts such as Webdings also contain map-style pictures, but they can change if the reader does not have the font, so keep it simple. The easiest option of all is location symbol in Word copy and paste: copy 📍 from this page and press Ctrl+V.

Location Symbol in Excel, Google Docs and Phones

• Excel: Alt+X does not work in Excel. Use Insert > Symbol, or press Windows+. and search "pin". Microsoft 365 Excel also has Insert > Icons.
• Google Docs: Insert > Special characters, then search "pushpin" or "position".
• Windows emoji panel: Windows+. works in almost any app, search "pin" or "location".
• Mac: Control+Command+Space, search "pin".
• Android and iPhone: open emoji and search "pin" or "location". You can save 📍 in your clipboard or as a text shortcut for quick use.
• HTML: 📍 shows 📍 and ⌖ shows ⌖.

North Symbol and Direction Symbols for Maps

Maps, site plans and school geography projects need a north symbol. The common north direction symbol is an arrow pointing up with the letter N on top: ↑N or N above ⬆. A compass symbol 🧭 is good for travel posts or a "Directions" button. For engineering drawings, architects use a north arrow block in their CAD software; for a north symbol png in a report, a simple N with ↑ in a bold font and the Download PNG of 🧭 both work well.

Common Mistakes With Address Symbols

• Mixing a colourful 📍 with plain black ✉ and ☎. It looks uneven; choose one style.
• Printing emoji on an old printer. Some print as empty boxes; test print first or use ⌖.
• Using 📌 for address. 📌 means "pinned"; 📍 means a place.
• Making the address symbol bigger than the text. Keep it at the same size.
